Check out our website home page for updated Clock Tower Info. Our Webmaster is working on putting additional pictures on in the next few weeks ..that part is still under construction. We have raised $71,325 of the $85,000 needed to complete this project. The Brickwork has been tedious during this out of the ordinary cold winter we have been enduring causing additional expenses. We are still soliciting donations and appreciate any help or amount individuals wish to contribute and we thank you in advance. We have scheduled our Clock Tower Dedication in conjunction with the Gwinn Fun Daze Event and Parade on July 26, 2014. Hope you can join us in this much anticipated celebration. The October 2013 Issue of the Gwinn Quarterly Newspaper is now available for viewing on our website www.gwinnmi.com This issue is devoted to the Clock Tower Restoration Project. The two sections are built and will be erected on Thursday Nov. 7th by a large crane and bricking will begin next week. Thank you to all who have donated to this project in the past and we hope that now it is actually going up we will receive additional donations for the rising material costs that we have experienced. Donations of any size can be sent to: Forsyth Twp Historical Society, P.O. Box 851, Gwinn, MI 49841 and marked: For Clock Tower Project. GREAT NEWS: THE CLOCK TOWER IS GOING UP THIS SUMMER!! WE COLLECTED $62,224 TO DATE. PROJECT COST IS PROJECTED AT $70,000. I lived in the u.p. From 81 to 85, went to ki elementary, gwinn middle school for 7th and 8th grade..great friend was Chet Sharkey.. Lived on base, 413 genie ct...out was a very spooky place..always wondered who lived there after us, what they experienced there..feel free to email me if you ever lived in that home.

Lived at KI Sawyer from 1963 to 1968. Left in April of 68 as a junior in high school. Attended the new high school the first year that it opened and played football for the Modeltowners--Coach McCormack. It was a great time and place to grow up and I even enjoyed the snow.

Our Fire Hall "Clock Tower" Restoration Project will begin construction of the Tower in the Spring of 2012.. We are $30,500 short of our fund goal.. We are looking for anyone that knew STEPHEN COLLETTE. He lived at K.I. Sawyer from 1976-1981. He moved his junior year.(81-82) He died March 6th 1998 in Alaska, where he lived with his wife and child. We are making a memory scrapbook for his son, who was 5yrs old at the time of his death. My former husband and I lived in Gwinn back in 1989 while he was stationed at KI Sawyer. We lived on Johnson Lake Road. We had the best landlords...but I cannot remember their names. The husband was the postmaster. Can anyone help me out? My daughter (who was born in Marquette) would like to go up there and see the area. Thanks!

Happy New Year! I hope someone in Gwinn remembers me. My folks owned the Tall Timbers grocery store on Co. Rd. 557 back in the 80's. I left Gwinn in 1989 and moved to Indiana and am doing well. Loved living in Gwinn! Lived at 232 Fortress on K.I. Sawyer AFB... Went to McDonald Elementary and then junior high school in the 80's. I miss the little ski hill behind our old house that just had a single tow rope. I don't miss the 9 months of snow/cold weather, but I did enjoy my time in Gwinn. Loved hiking along Picture Rocks and going to Iron Mountain or whatever it was called to ski!

Hi everyone. By chance, I stumbled across the site. What a great find! Looking at the 100 year celebratory pictures brought back great memories. I'm a class of 76 grad, spent 6 years in Gwinn, and, like MacArthur, I will return. Take care, great website.
