Thank you Carol and David very much for the information on CRF. We euthanized our 13 Year old Main Coon 3 ago and it hurts so much to loose her that I find myself frequently looking for more information to convince myself that we did the right thing instead of waiting longer. 2 Blood Tests a month apart with a Kidney Medicine treatment in between confirmed that the Creatinine and some other component were out of bounds and CRF was the reason. We bought new food and feed her 6 times a day in small quantities but she still continued to loose 150 g per month in weight and all she wanted to do was sleep and eat. Your sympton list was right about her: Excessive urination Increased thirst Nausea and gagging Licking lips Grinding or cracking sound in jaw Vomiting (both clear/foamy liquid and food) I would also add: extremely strong smelling urine, after eating and while performing cleaning routine she was always opening mouth wide and cracking her jaw. She also stopped squatting down to urinate and started to urinate on

I stumbled upon your helpful list of cat-related sites located at http://www.felinecrf.com/links0.htm and thought I might let you know about a site that I have been passionately working on over the past couple of years. The site is www.catlitterhelp.com and I am proud to say that it is the largest and most extensive cat litter site on the internet. With the help of my many readers, I have been able to capture a good idea of what the different cat litters are and their major pros and cons and I also post helpful articles on a regular basis. I feel that the site would be a great addition to your already impressive list of cat resources. Either way, keep up the great work! Thanks, Brandon

Thank you for your wonderful site. The past 2 years were spent helping our beloved Sasha, a lilac point Siamese, with the effects of kidney failure. Your site helped us become more knowledgeable about the diagnosis, signs and stages, and care that she would need. Without you, we wouldn't have been able to make informed decisions about her quality of life and the level of treatment she received. She touched us deeply with her strength and will to live. We still struggle a month after her passing. But I know that, without your site, we would have lost her sooner due to the choices we would have made. Thank you for your willingness to share with others what you know. You have impacted our lives for the better. God bless you and your mission.

Thank you so very much for your generosity in creating this website. It was a tremendous help and comfort as I cared for Scruffy, a sweet, sweet girl with CRF. I lost her just a few days ago and miss her terribly. We grew ever closer throughout her treatment and she never failed to be sweet and surprising.

Sad, sad day. Just last night, we lost our beloved Blink. He was 18 years old codger. Life long outdoor kitty who was kind to ALL kitties he came in contact with as well as us humans. I want to point out that Blink did NOT have this wretched disease (thank the Lord one was spared!) However, he was a stalwart, steady source of strength & comfort to my other cat's who did suffer from CRF. When each one passed, we noticed he would stand near their burial places for hours & days at a time - watching over them still! He is the only cat I had that grieved so with his feline friend losses. Incredible guy & I just wanted to post something for him here as a recognition of his unwavering spirit, strength, and comfort for his furry friends. He watched over several guest book entry kitties listed in here with CRF...Dee Dee (2006) & Hobie (2008) plus...the others...Pups, Reyes, Smokey, Pepper, Chi Chi, Miss Kitty, Schnookie Doodle, Peppermint. God bless these sweet, kind creatures! For the record, Blink passed due to heart failure afte

My cat Simon has been diagnosed with CRF and it is a real challenge to feed him. Someone suggested liquefying tuna and warm water and feeding the cat with a syringe. Has anyone else tried this, and do you think it a good idea?

Our little kitty "Spooky" has been a real trooper. He has been hospitalized, and 'tormented' by vets and technicians for over six months. He now will not eat - not tuna, or chicken, or anything. We will decide on June 15th 2016 if the vet will need to send Spooky to the rainbow bridge. Why does it have to be so hard a decision to make? It will seem like the end of the world for us. We have had Spooky for 15 years, and all we can do is be thankful for every moment. Spooky is a handsome sable male Burmese cross (we think), with a little patch of white fur on his tummy. We have only recently stopped taking him to the vets daily for sub-Q fluids, and are now administering them ourselves twice a day. We would like to post a photo later on. Spooky will never be forgotten.

My 12 year old kitty Gizmo is at the vets a second night, hooked up to an IV to try and get everything flushed out. I'm not sure what's going to happen, I am so sad and worried about what's going to happen. I pray that I am able to bring him home tomorrow morning and somehow he will be able to live normally again. I am trying to read and understand why this is happening to his kidneys. Thank you for your website, it is comforting and it gives me hope that gizmo will be okay.

Unfortunately, we have had to put down our CRF cat today after about four months of battling the illness. She trooped through her epogen shots and subcutaneous fluids without much complaint, but when she stopped eating altogether we knew it was time to put her down. The humane decision is never easy but it is how these cases inevitably end. This website has helped us so much throughout the course of her illness. We did all that we could and it just wasn't enough. We pray that she is at peace now and that we will someday be reunited. God bless those who have just been diagnosed. Make the time that you have special and leave no regrets when they're ready to move on.

I just wanted to share some info.........we could not get my cat Elvis' blood work values to stabilize and his creatinine and BUN were creeping ever upward. Started him on Renadyl mixed into his food, two pills a day, subq fluids every day, and a famotidine once a day, along with many , many prayers. We even conducted an old fashioned Biblical healing service. After 18 days on the Renadyl we got the most MIRACULOUS results!!! BUN down over 20% to withing the normal range, creatinine down almost 20% from 2.1 to 1.7, phosphorus down from 5.5 to 4.6. Prayer will not only help heal but God will lead you to something that will work. We have not changed anything on Elvis' treatment and will check his blood in 2 weeks, and will then know what we are doing long-term. Right now our vet is calling him a "Miracle" Cat.

I love this site.I have used it for almost a year now.Going to the vet today and I have all my questions and suggestions and ideas written down. I always feel like I have new ideas to try no matter how bleak things look. I have not looked at the pet loss site yet cant and wont till I have no choice. Seems to look at that means I am giving up and accepting what is coming. I know he is getting worse but for now I cant just pretend he is just sick and not terminally sick. Right now he is stable even the vet said so. Thanks for all your time in doing this site

Hi, I'm Simba and I have CRF. I really don't feel well even with IV Sub-Q nightly. My human pets are really upset and trying to make me better. I'm losing my appetite so the vet will say what I need. I've been to the vet twice and she says my numbers are holding or slowly getting worse. I'm only 2 going on 3. Anyone have anything they can tell my human pets to help me?

My cat, Princess, passed away last night during the second week of IV fluid treatment for chronic renal failure. While improving at first, she took a turn for the worst two nights ago, experiencing difficulty regulating body temperature and showing clear signs of dehydration. Princess was 18 years of age and had been fighting her kidney disease for 10 years with prescription foods, hand feeding, Pepcid AC and daily lactated ringers solution administered sub-Q. She was one very tough little girl. She will be missed greatly by her family, Cookie, Friendly, Dumplin', Fluffy, Mischief, Velvet, Sunny and me. We pray that a loving God in His time will unite us again in heaven.

I am just heartbroken, my 4 year old cat Malik is in renal failure and the vet seems perplexed. He is in the hospital right now and I am sitting home today, crying and crying, trying to figure this out. He is my rescue cat, he rescued me, and I love him with all my heart. I am in the information gathering stage right now and it is nice to know I am not alone.

i stumbled across this site while looking for "tanya's feline crf org" - a former website by an incredibly knowledgeable longtime vet, i believe in the u.k.: her site was chock full of integrative cat kidney failure healing and treating info, and using her advice our kitty has actually IMPROVED in kidney function over the past 13 months. our ex-vet advised us to feed kitty, sabrina, only rx cat food (which she hated, and vomited, then refused to eat - every single brand), and told us kidney failure could never, ever be reversed and to prepare for the end, etc. ad nauseum, all of which has proven to be less than gospel to date, and all of which this site is stating as fact. this is all incredibly depressing to cat caregivers, that we have little choice but to torment our babies and watch them slowly die. i wish so much that i could find tanya's site again, as i am not prepared to simply "medicate my cat to death" just as human doctors do. my kitty just returned from her 6-mo checkup with a new vet and she is in glorious health fo

My 17 year 9 month old cat(Sheba) was diagnosed with Kidney failure on Dec 08, 2014 I purchased Kidney support Gold from Pet well being I have been with them 2 years now on other natural things. By holistic vet. 400 comments said it worked. Yet it does not seem to work for mine. I do not have to give fluids(IV everyday) only every other day. Her mind seems gone she stares in space. Also give her Phosphate blocker. I'm afraid i will have to get her up. I think the big part os education fro people. They have vitamins and minerals that support kidneys while young

This is a great site and I wish I'd found it sooner. I adopted an older cat from our wonderful local humane society back in May of this year (2014). I knew he was older and had digestive issues so I assumed his lethargic personality and minimal eating was his 'norm'...unfortunately I was wrong. There is no way a busy shelter staff would have noticed these things in the short time he was there, so nobody is to blame. We had to put him down today after an abrupt abscess from retinal detachment cued me that he was seriously ill. It's sad, but he was happy for a few months with us, and gave happiness too. Mostly just wanted to say I'll be passing your info along to the shelter, where it will likely become part of their volunteer awareness training and even a handout for their cat adoptions. Thanks.

My beloved boy Boddington is 18 and has kidney failure been to vets his levels are ridiculously high. I've bought him home and had another month with him but he's urinating and drinking a lot very smelly very clingy and has started to hide away a lot which is not him. We have decided that we do not want him having any treatment as long as he's not suffering as he would find that too much so the time has come to let him die with dignity before he suffers too much. I am finding this so hard the vet agrees with me but I am still feeling guilty I thought he'd be with me forever he's my old mate been through a lot together and I know I owe it to him to make sure he doesn't suffer. We lost our other baby boy in may I'm finding it all so awful and feel helpless. Would appreciate any thoughts thanks
