Comments How much does a kidney transplant cost for an 11 year old female cat? I'm disabled, on SSI and need to know how much I need to try to come up with. My cat is my life and all I have in this world. My phone is 214 966-3211. I fed her the best dry food money could buy but no one ever told me to introduce wet food daily along with dry.

Comments My 7 year old cat, Jasper, was diagnosed with CRF late last year when his weight dropped to 7 lbs from his normal 9-10 lbs. We pulled him out of that episode but he's now had a relapse. He doesn't look quite as bad as he did the firs time but his behavior is much more worrisome. He is listless and does not seem to want to eat. Thankfully he's drinking water but he's also hibernating in the spare room. Frankly, I'm scared that we won't be able to turn things around this time.

Comments April 1, 2013 will be exactly a year and a half since my cat Casper will be diagnosed with kidney disease. When I first found out at the vet, I didn't know much about it and thought I would be losing her within a few months. She is 16 right now, and was diagnosed at 14. We only give her intravenous about every other day, it's hard to stick your baby with a needle as often as the vet asks you to. To hear this was especially devastating for me since we got Casper when I was 5 years old, we grew up together. I just want to let people know that the initial grief you feel when your cat is first diagnosed does go away. I was able to really enjoy the last year and a half with Casper, and am continuing to enjoy her still being apart of this family. I try not to dwell on the fact that she has a terminal illness. Casper is more my pet than she is my parents'. they decided to let me have the decision of if we put her to sleep, and when. When it becomes painful for her, I will not keep her alive, because at that point, its just for my best int

Comments Blackstone You came into our family in September 1994. You were found in the middle of Blackstone Avenue crying in fear with no Momma near. David was 8, Deanna was 4, and Andrew was 3 years old and you - you were as small as a Hostess Ho Ho. Now, it is March 2013...Your brothers and sister are grown now - David is nearly 27, Deanna is 23, and Andrew is nearly 22 years old now – and never for a moment did they not love you. You were diagnosed this past Wednesday, March 6, with CRF but we knew for the past 3 years you had renal complications. We fed you the required diet and took care of you for the last 2 years. You no longer eat and what little water you drink, is a victory. I came across this website, I'm sorry to say, too late but nonetheless, has provided valuable information and similarities to our family's struggles. I am greatful for the love and compassion that has been written on this website - I can feel the concern and empathy these writers convey. For that I am greatful to have come to this site.

Comments I have a cat that is 6 yrs old and was diagnosed early last week with crf. He was admittied into the vet and sent to an after hours emergency care facility as well. He recieved iv fluids for a few days and the vets he had seen all had different opinions about his prognosis. They told us that is we did the sub-q and the special diet tht it could give a little while longer with him, so we brought him home and other than being a little over sleepy he is his normal self. He has been home now for two and half days now and seems to be ok, he is eating and drinking, going potty like normal. He does not like the special food he is supposed to eat and although he is eating its hard to get him to eat this food. We love him dearly and want to do everything that we can to help him and keep him as healthy as possible. If anyone has any tips that we can use to get him to eat the k/d food for kitties with renal issues it would be greatly appreciated.

Comments Thank you for this site and this information. Our beloved Kallie was diagnosed with CRF in the past week. She has already had to go to the vet office twice last week for IV fluids. It is great to have a place where we can get information and to read/listen to other caregiver stories of people who are going through the same things. The first day she was admitted, I cried all day. It is an emotional rollercoaster, and I am very glad that I now have this information to help me along. Thank you.

Comments In addition to my prior post, Butterscotch lived 4 years after he was diagnosed with kidney disease. Our vet prescribed Tumil-K tablets, Calcitriol that was compounded, and Aluminum Hydroxide Powder. Butterscotch was healthy until six weeks ago when he became progressively lethargic, stopped eating and finally stopped drinking.

Comments My kitty P.C. was diagnosed in 2007, the cause was most likely melamine toxicity. He was stabilized and stayed fairly healthy for five years. He began to decline in the middle of 2012, but held on until this past weekend. He stopped eating and could no longer stand up. The look in his eyes told me he was tired and I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize, but he was suffering. I will miss him, and I know my other cats do.

Comments My kitty Oreo was diagnosed three days ago. She is close to 14 years old. I noticed her behavior over the two days prior to diagnisis was lethargic and I could see in her eyes something was off. She has never been sick apart from haiballs here and there. I took her to the vet the next morning and the blood test showed her levels were very high. She has been put through 3 days of stressful IV treatments and although she is starting to return to her old self and I actually got her to eat quite a bit of the wet food tonight, my vet said she needs 24 hr IV and a feeding tube but I worry about her stress level. They didn't even try to feed her the last two days. I am giving her a break tomorrow and taking her to a new vet the day after. Thanks to this great website I feel more confident that I am making the right decision. "Treat the cat not the disease" she is a tough cookie and the comments about cats who have had happy lives for years with CRF is encouraging. We will keep you posted on our progress.

Comments Sweet Pea, my little grandson of 14 years passed away yesterday after a week long battle with the final stages of kidney disease. He will be greatly missed by his Grampa and the rest of his family, Cookie, Squeekie, Princess, Friendly, Dumplin', Mischief, Velvet, Sunny, and Fluffy. Rest in peace, little guy. One day we'll be together again.

Comments Today, for the second time this year and the third time in the last six, I've had a cat diagnosed with kidney disease. Sweet Pea, 14, the son of Princess and the grandson of Cookie, the other two, surprised me earlier this evening by just keeling over after a failed attempt to eat a meal. We went immediately to the emergency facility where he remains at this moment. An initial report on his blood work was not encouraging: creatinine 7.8, BUN 140+, packed cell volume 16, and he'd lost a lot of weight. I'm familiar enough with the disease to know that he's in a battle for his life and I would ask anyone that is willing to pray for him to live so that his Grampa can nurse him back to health with fluids, medications and by hand feeding him the right food. I would never have suspected that anything was wrong until, perhaps, yesterday when he ate only a little of his favorite food. As it was with his mother and grandmother, Sweet Pea's disease appeared suddenly as is more the rule than the exception in these cases, I've learned. Pleas

Comments I came across your site while waiting to fly home and see our Pumpkin who was diagnosed with kidney failure while we were away. Reading your site helped me to be more prepared for what I got home to, but it was worse than we expected. We held our formerly "Plump"kin for hours as he barely lifted his head. Thanks for helping us understand what he's experiencing. I don't think we've got much time with him :-(

Comments I cannot afford a Memorial page but just wanted to somehow pay tribute to my little girl Nikki AKA Sissy. She earned her Angel Wings today. She was 11 1/2 years old. She was born with small kidneys so lived with Kidney problems her whole life. We tried doing sub-qs at home but she was too fiesty so for the past few years she had been going weekly to the vet to get them. She hated it, but as soon as she got home she ran to her plate because she knew she was getting cat food and it made it all better for her. She was such a fighter and even today before we had to put her down, she was still using every strength she had to drink (from our bath tub, she loved it) and take herself to the bathroom, and even taking a bite of her favorite food, Philly steak and cheese hotpockets. We alloweed her to eat whatever she wanted towards the end and those and cheesecake were her favorite. I know she is in a better place, with no more fatigue and pain, but a huge piece of my heart is gone and I am so very sad. Rest In Peace my baby girl. Mommy and Dad
