Thank you! You have helped me out(and my cat) and given me priceless information at a very difficult and stressful time. Instead of euthanasia, I will now let Tabitha dictate what we do nest for her! I can't thank you enough!

One of my two Cats, her name is Six, was diagnosed yesterday with Moderate Kidney Failure. She is at the Hospital as I wright, for treatment. I was kind of prepared for the diagnosis because we went through this once before. But Six was so different from Tieling. Six really didn't show any symptoms until the night before I called the Vet. She seems to be responding well and although I know what the end result is I am happy to get even a few more days with her. I have an Angle, my Pet Sitter who will give her Fluids for us. She loves Six too. Six is 15 year old beautiful, loving, Balinese. When the time comes her Sister and I will miss her very much but for now we hold on to hope and pray for her. My thoughts and prayers to all of you. Cats bring such joy to Humans and nothing can take away all they give us.

We had to let our sweet girl Misty go on 1/30/2010. I have wrestled so much with guilt in being away to visit family(thankfully my husband was home)and not getting her to the vet for a check up when I noticed her losing weight. I thought it was due to older age(almost 13 yrs old)and planned on taking her when I got back.I was gone for 3 weeks and in that time she became so sick and lethargic. My husband did everything he could-she was flushed out and hydrated at the vet and was home 2 days later.I changed my plane ticket to get home earlier. She waited for me but was so sick. She was my sweet joy and was always there for me.I stayed up with her through 3 nights. We used an eye dropper to hydrate her and give her liquid food but she just couldn't hang on and I couldn't bear to see her suffer. We were hoping for a miracle-that 5% chance the vet said that her kidneys could start up again. I miss her so much and can't believe she's gone.Thank you for letting me share my broken heart…

My 10 1/2 year old, Minnie, was diagnosed with CRF in October. It was such a difficult thing to hear. I have taken care of her the best I could for the last 3 months (though I couldn't do the subQ's - she would never have let me do that to her!!) She was doing fairly well, but over the last few days she went back to refusing to eat and I could see she was getting weaker. Even though she was still kinda cuddly (cuddly for her, that is) today I had to make THE difficult decision. Even though I feel horrible and guilty and sooo sad, I know she's in a better place now, and I know I would never have had the knowledge or the courage to do it if not for this site. Thank you.

It's been a year since my cat was diagnosed with CRF and given 'days to weeks' to live. The sub-q treatments have worked well for us, even though they are at times very stressful/difficult. We're so grateful for every extra day we've had with her, though, especially since her quality of life is still good. There are so many people out there dealing with this in different ways. We've been lucky that we've gotten past our fears and that this cat is very relaxed with us and trusts us to do the 'sticks' without fighting or squirming. Had it been one of our other cats who doesn't like to be handled, our treatment options would have been limited and I doubt I'd be writing a 'one year on' message. Only you know what's best for your situation and your cat. If you can manage the sub-q treatments, they can make a huge difference!!

My 17 year old Nellie was diagnosed a week ago. Thank you for sharing your Avatar with us and all that you learned. He was such a lucky kitty to have such loving parents who now so kindly are teaching all of us who are so new and scared.

I said goodbye to my sweet baby boy Dolomite yesterday - he lived for an extra 9 months with medication and kidney diet food. But eventually he wouldn't take the pills or eat his food. I am so sad and so sorry for all others here who have lost their loved ones. I felt so guilty for not noticing his weight loss - I had no idea what signs to look for. I am so glad this website is here - I was devastated when he was first diagnosed, but the website helped me to understand. Now he is at peace. -I offer my sincere sympathies to all others on this site.

I'm so thankful to find this site. Our 7 1/2 year old "Blackie" was diagnosed with CRF this past week. Creatinine and BUN numbers are sky high (9.7 and 156 respectively). We've been taking him in to vet for daily fluid therapy and finally got him to eat babyfood and kitten milk over the last couple days without vomiting. Need to find the right treatment to keep him stable and happy. Not sure I have the guts to do the sub-Qs myself but can't afford daily trips to the vet! What an emotional rollercoaster!

Miss Priss was diagnosised with crf earlier this week. My vet says her numbers are good and that it is possible that things will turn around. She has started eating and drinking on her own which she was not doing at the first of this week. We gave her, the first bag of fluids today, our first try on our own with out the vet, we were only able to get 1/2 in. Hoping to try later tonight.

Thank you for starting this page. My 16 year old cat Murka was diagnosed with CRF a few days ago. She is my little best friend. I am supposd to start subQ fluids at home tomorrow and am very nervous. I'm worried that she will not understand that I am trying to help her, not hurt her. I hope we can have atleast a few more months together.

Hello, my cat Mr.Mischief was jsut diagnosed with CRF on 12/31/09 he is only four years of age. I have had to rush him in to the vet for emergency treatment as early signs of CRF can be hard to spot. When i got thim there i did not know what i was to expect, worms, cancer, depresson maybe? but no it was CRF an i am devestated. He is currently in what they call stage 3 of 4. He is home now an doing much much better. I have him on the Sub-Q fulid treatments every two to threedays, plus i have to pill him every 12 hours with three diffrent types of medication w/a low protene diet. I just gave him his first fluid injection on 01/02/10 and will be administering another today 01/04/10. If anybody has any helpfull tips on how i can care for my cat in between these times would be greatly appreciated! I am still a very young man and i am having a hard time adjusting to his condition and feeling very low in confidence about these fluid injections considering i missed on the first one an wond up piercing both layers of skin going in one side and o

I can't express how much your website has meant to me. All this information has been priceless in guiding me to help my beloved Gypsy. Loosing our dear cat Jasper 3 years ago very suddenly to an undiagnosed heart condition was devastating. We are grateful to have this extra time with Gypsy. God Bless you.

My heart goes out to everyone whose beloved felines have been diagnosed with CRF - I'm experiencing the same heartache, confusion and fear in dealing with my cat's recent CRF diagnosis. Mr. Kitty is 17 and his BUN & Creatinine levels were sky high -I believe he is stage 3 if not 4. Even after 6 days in the hospital there wasn't much improvement - but I'm happy to say that he's been home now for ten days and w/ daily sub-Q fluids, he's eating and is doing much better. Please don't give up - sometimes it helps if you put the wet food in your hand or try warming it. I wish you all the best.

Sadly we lost Melvin on 12-24. He kept losing weight, and eventually stopped eating. It has been a very sad time for us this holiday. His brother is doing well with the new diet, but I think he misses Mel, too.

my precious tabby "cleopatra" was just diagnosed with early CRF after having a tooth abscess. She was rehydrated in the hospital and now she is home. It is just breaking my heart to have to stick her every other day and give her fluids. My best friend was assisting me by holding her when I gave her her fluids every other day. My friend is not able to assist me with every treatment(every other day) and I am seeking advice and/or any suggestions on how to administer her sub-q fluids by myself. I am so thankful for this website and to know that I am not alone. This has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do and to be quite honest until my Vet gave me this website I was not coping very well. I have been on this website reading and learning everything I possibly can, "Knowledge is power". "Cleo" missed her fluids yesterday and I will try again today. I would appreciate any tips you could share in making this easier for both her and I. I have cried alot with all the personal stories I have read and am doing my best to cope with

I just wanted to thank you Teaka is 11 years old and in October '09 was diagnosed with Kidney Disease. He has been reluctant to eat the canned KD formula that the vet wants him to eat, and now he is refusing the dry. I read about mixing tuna water with the food, I checked the label and then mixed it with his wet food. He ate a little bit. Thank you, I will keep trying to find ways to entice him to eat. The fact that he ate some of it is better than none. A little back ground: Teaka is 11 years old, I rescued a litter of 5, lost 2 littermates to congential heart failure. They were "wild born". He was the runt and would climb into my empty tea bowl/cup and go to sleep hence Teaka (Tea cup). Thank you for your help. Be Blessed. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.

Yesterday, my cat Ashley was at the vet. Her kidney values are now BUN 75 and CREATININE 5.8. Is she now in stage 4 renal failure? How high do the values get before the cat is close to death? Any information is appreciated as I am trying to prepare for the inevitable. Thank you for such a wonderful website!

The directions for subcutaneous fluid intake were perfection and our little buddy didn't even mind. We lost Rocky but your website made us feel less alone. Thank you with all our hearts. My beautiful boy Abbott just came home from the vet and was diagnosed with CRF. My heart is broken and I don't know where to go. He is my joy. I don't want him to suffer yet I can't afford costly treatment only to prolong his agony. I am so sad.
