Comments Thank you for a great site. My best friend has an 11 year old kitty who was diagnosed 3 days ago. We want to do everything possible to help him and are overwhelmed and very sad. Can you tell me what I need to start tracking for his medical care?

Comments Just wanted to comment on what a wonderful site this is. It's professional, yet is accessible to the average cat owner dealing with a seriously disabling illness. I have had two cats with hyperthyroidism. Artemis died of a heart attack 6 years ago without ever developing kidney problems. Sushi is now a healthy 14 years old, but I know CRF is a possible complication of her hyperthyroidism, as well as her age. I read the wonderful article on "Benny" and the CRF support group in the March/April edition of BEST FRIENDS, and decided to visit your site. It's great! Keep up the good work!

Comments My 10 1/2 year old, Minnie, was diagnosed with CRF in October. It was such a difficult thing to hear. I have taken care of her the best I could for the last 3 months (though I couldn't do the subQ's - she would never have let me do that to her!!) She was doing fairly well, but over the last few days she went back to refusing to eat and I could see she was getting weaker. Even though she was still kinda cuddly (cuddly for her, that is) today I had to make THE difficult decision. Even though I feel horrible and guilty and sooo sad, I know she's in a better place now, and I know I would never have had the knowledge or the courage to do it if not for this site. Thank you.

Comments Both of my cats have been diagnosed with CRF. One is doing much better that the other. Mel needs to receive sub-q fluids at home. So far I have stuck him twice with no luck. I don't see the fluid building up, like it did at the vets. I have done this without help both times. What I'd really like is the LVT to come and stick him for me. I did notice he was eating more after the treatment at the vets. I pray that I will be able to do this for him, since it does seem to help. PS his BUN was 124.7 last week. His brother was 44, and went down to 37 after starting the new diet.

Comments I hope my experience will help some cat and owner from making fatal mistakes. After feeling like we were hit by a truck w/ the devastating news of severe CRF (despite very frequent trips to the vet, as recent as 5 wks prior to diagnosis), I searched online and decided to move my cat to a University Veterinary Teaching Hospital 45 miles away. There they are performing more sophisticated tests on him (heart echo, ultrasound of the kidney, monitoring blood pressure, biopsies, etc.). My regular vet completely missed a huge abcess my cat had on his chest from a fight, although she was drawing blood from his jugular. I urge you to try to find a facility w/ many diagnostic tools, yrs of collective know-how, ability to treat complications. My cat is hospitalized right now, and I hope we'll be able to bring him home. But if it wasn't for the bigger, better hospital, I don't even think I could hope for that now. Wish us luck, and my prayers to all of you out there in a similiar predicament.

Comments Thank you! I came home from the vet yesterday really scared and sad. The information on your site -- and knowing that you're there -- has really calmed me, which I'm sure Blizzard appreciates. Thanks so much for taking the time to put together this amazing resource!

Comments My 12 year old cat named Boomer was diagnosed with CRF about 1 1/2 years ago. Since this time, I've been giving Boomer unflavored Pedialyte in his drinking bowl. Although it doesnt have a taste, Boomer loves to drink it and it helps keep him hydrated. With Sub-Q's every other day and Pedialyte, he is maintaining and seems to be happy. I just wanted to share some good helpful information. Take care everyone and God Bless!

Comments My wife and I said goodbye to our beloved companion, Jade, yesterday. The softest gray and white tabby I’ve ever met, she was slight and nimble and loving. She brought so much joy to our family over the last 12 years; I don’t have the words to express the happiness she created. Jade was only diagnosed Wednesday; no symptoms presented until this week. She was given a clean bill of health at twelve years old in May of this year. The vet told us Friday morning that the rapid nature of her decline and the results from her blood test meant she had, under the best care, less than a month or two left. She was in good spirits and no pain, but it was coming up fast. We knew from our visit to this web site and what our vet told us how the fight would go at the end, so we decided to say our goodbyes and let go. (cont)

Comments Being there at the end, having said what we needed to was therapeutic and comforting. But hearing Jade purr softly, and seeing the relief in her eyes as she knew it was O.K. to stop fighting and let go... we knew she had made the same choice. It was the hardest thing we have ever done, but it was also the right thing to do for all of us. We hope your fights with CRF fair better than ours, and that all of you caretakers out there have many more years of happiness and joy with your cats than we got, finding out so close to the end.

Comments We have a 20-something cat who has had failing kidneys for at least 5 years. We've watched him grow thinner and now use inappropriate places to eliminate. We've gotten the pee pads and he's been good about using them. His fur looks terrible and it's hard to brush him with all the bones and so little fat. We just lost a 10-year-old suddenly to lymphoblastic leukemia in late August and are not too keen about losing our old buddy. We keep him fed and loved. We've gotten several new cats to keep him company. So far so good. Nice to find a place where others have faced our situation.

Comments Thank you so much for this website! It's been a great resource. My Junior died in my arms last night after a just over two year stint with CRF, he was almost 11. I will tell everyone who has a newly diagnosed kitty to "listen" more to your cat's behavior than to the numbers the vet is giving you. They told me over and over that my little buddy had only weeks to live, but he thought otherwise! At each stage, I would ask the vet "Am I doing this for me or will it improve the quality of his life?" Give back the love your kitty gives to you!! Also, don't be afraid of the sub-Q fluids...it's easier on you financially and on the cat emotionally to do it yourself at home! I am the world's most squemish person so, if I can do it, anyone can!!! Good Luck everyone!

Comments Harry lost her short battle today at Tuft's University animal hospital..It was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I brought her in this morning because her crf was so bad, when they were treating her they also discovered lung tumors..I now know that she is ok and no longer suffering no matter how bad my heart is breaking. Thank you to everyone who helped me with this..you've all been a blessing..

Comments My 9 yr old cat "Harry" was just diagnosed with advanced kidney failure. I have had her for 3 years, prior to that she was a stray/abandoned cat. Although we knew that she would not live a full life (due to her past) we wanted to make it the best life possible for her. If anyone has any information or words of comfort that would help me in my decision making, that would be great.

Comments This is in memory of Fred who was just set free today on August 8, 2007. Fred was 21 and lived a full and happy life. After two years of coping with CRF and trying to make him as comfortable as possible he spoke with his eyes today. He just stopped eating two days ago and developed oral ulcers. When they shut down it happens very quickly. My advice is to please always connect with the signals your cat is giving you and act as quickly as possible. Fred is comfortable and at peace now and I'm very thankful for that. After 21 years I owe him that. Best wishes to all and please be patient and watch for the signs.

Comments Hi. I just want to thank the people who administer this web site, and all the people who have left such lovely comments. My cat Bailey was diagnosed three months ago, and tonight is our last night together, as I know that the time has come. I'm sitting here with her, and I can't believe the depth of my sadness. I've had her since the week she was born 17 years ago, when I was a freshman in college, and I haven't experience a loss like this in a very, very long time. I don't usually write into web sites, but I just wanted to share this with people who will truly understand. My family and friends are wonderful, but they don't get it. Not really. The vet is coming over tomorrow at 5 p.m. I know none of us know each other, but if you happen to think about it, please keep us in your prayers/thoughts. And my deepest feelings go out to everyone in this position. Thanks.

Comments My almost 12yr old cat, Peach, was diagnosed with kidney disease last Thursday. Since then, I've tried finding info to help her and me cope. I was all prepared to do fluids under the skin and deal with incontinence and such due to her condition. However, I was not prepared for the seizures and non-eating. The seizures are distressing, to say the least! The vet cannot figure out why she's having them, as they are not related to her illness. Valium makes her lethargic and she's becoming weak from not eating. She drinks well and is using the litter box, so for now the kidney disease is the least of our worries. Can anyone help with why the seizures are occurring? How we can help her? Thanks
