Comments See, how important it is having you veterans online, providing all the very best information to come to good results. I allways liked to dedicate the Goering Horses to somewhere in Berlin; saw "him" riding be- tween Schwanwerder island and the H.Q. at Clayalle. No, the horses were in Salzburg under USFA command. Thanks, Marcus.

Comments Nice Site. Joined A Compny, 70th Engineer Battalion (Combat) in 1954 at Saalfelden, then went with 70th up to Nellingen Kaserne, Germany in 1955-1957 and finally Gyroscoped with the Battalion to Ft. Campbell, KY in 1957. Still in A Company, I left the unit in July of that year. In retirement, I am presently the 70ths' Historian.

Comments I was attached to the radio station Blue Danube Network (BDN)in Salzburg and St. Johann /Pongau from 1954 until the very last day, which was October 14, 1955. We left one day earlier that we had to under the treaty. I then went to AFN in Germany. Went back to University of Salzburg School of Law and got another degree there. My wife and I now live part-time in Saalbach, which is wonderful little village near Zell am See. Anybody know anyone from BDN?

We, Companies, H&S, A, B, and C, were station in tent city for several months were I served as a cook, then we went to Camp Roeder near Salzburg Austria, were we helped in the construction of Camp Roeder by laying down the road bedding and at times we did some road work for the local authorities. While there I still served as a cook and at times I drove and did some welding at the motor pool. I belive it was sometime in March of 1952 we returned to Camp Saalfelden and were we put up in the billets. In April of 1952 I was reassigned to the 350th. Infantry Regiment, Compamty A, so it was back to Camp Roeder again. my duties there were to serve as cook. Twenty four hours on and forty eight hours off, "can't be

Comments I Believe I was cut off during my last entry. My duties in Camp Roeder was again as a cook, twenty four hours on and fourty eight hours off, "can't beat that with a stick" most of my off time was spent in Salzburg, at the Casanova nightclub, Liliput-Bar, the Casino or the Mirabell Servece Club. On two seperate occasions I was on a medical convalescence leave in Garmisch, Germany, for a total of forty five days, I returned to the states in Jan, 1953 aboard the same ship, the General R.E. Callen, and was discharged on Feb. 3, 1953, back home to Woodhaven, Queens, New York, that very same day. My time in Austria, has always been in my memory over these passed years and will remain with me as a the most happest and joyful time of my life.

Comments Walter, I'm really glad you decided to stay in tontact. This site will be a valuable resource for the lineage of units that I chronicle in Germany. Particularly, USA Field Station Augsburg traces its lineage back to Field Station Bad Aibling which was formed from a unit that migrated from Austria in 1956 (approx.) I'll link it in to this site and refer to it often since Austria is probably my favorite country outside of the USA.
