Comments I was in a chat room tonight on AOL about cats and asking anyone for informative sites to help me deal with my cat with CRF. A very nice group of people suggested this site and I am so glad they did. I have been crying literally all day for my little soulmate of 14 years KitKit. He is in a stage right now where he refuses to eat anything. KitKit has another problem in that he is 3 legged and the years of using only three legs have also made it difficult during this time of horrific weakness. He is presently at 5 1/2 pounds and I feel the end coming closer each day. I will care for him anyway I can until at I feel he has suffered long enough. Please Pray that when the times comes his journey beyond this life is a happy and smooth one. He is closer to me even than my own family or close friends. Thanks so much for this site. It's truly a God Send. (webpage linked to our picture)

Comments Thank you for your very nice site. My 20 year old "Frijolito" has had FUS for 7 years, and has had Sub Cutaneous hydration since then. He still chases my 60 lb. dog Boochie around the house. Tell people, that there is hope! God Bless

Comments I have no words to express my gratitude for the great ammount of help I got from this site when I had to take the hardest decision of my life about deciding wether it was worthwhile prolonging the suffering of my beloved Tina who had been suffering from CRF for almost 2 years, or act and stop it by putting her to sleep and I decided for the latter.I got a lot of strength from this site that helpd me through this most painful moment. Thanks a lot.Best wishes.Yod

Comments My Persian 4 yrs old, Abby, was just diagnosed with Polycystic Kidneys. She has multiple cysts in both kidneys. Her BUD is up, Creatinine up, White Blood Cell count High, and Red Blood Cell count low. I am very upset now. I wonder if this leads to CRF and is there anything that can be done...thanks for the information...Wynn

Comments Our cat, Angus, began acting very lethargic and crying often after we returned from a three-day weekend. Our neighbors watched our three cats and said that nothing out of the ordinary happend. After our vet drew some blood, he said Angus' kidney values were extremely elevated. X-rays showed one kindey enlarged and the other small. Since Angus was very dehydrated, he gave him IV fluids and is preparing to do exploratory surgery to examine both organs. My question is, as Angus showed no signs of distress (loss of appetited, letargy, crying)before we left for the weekend, how fast does CRF begin?

Comments When will the producers of cat food be taken to task for the carbohydrate, phosphorus and the other “fillers” that are toxic to our babies. If I were in a position to do so I’d hold the “elite” food producers feet to the fire! I sometimes wonder who the real “animals” are. wLa2

Comments Thank you Carol and David very much for the information on CRF. We euthanized our 13 Year old Main Coon 3 ago and it hurts so much to loose her that I find myself frequently looking for more information to convince myself that we did the right thing instead of waiting longer. 2 Blood Tests a month apart with a Kidney Medicine treatment in between confirmed that the Creatinine and some other component were out of bounds and CRF was the reason. We bought new food and feed her 6 times a day in small quantities but she still continued to loose 150 g per month in weight and all she wanted to do was sleep and eat. Your sympton list was right about her: Excessive urination Increased thirst Nausea and gagging Licking lips Grinding or cracking sound in jaw Vomiting (both clear/foamy liquid and food) I would also add: extremely strong smelling urine, after eating and while performing cleaning routine she was always opening mouth wide and cracking her jaw. She also stopped squatting down to urinate and started to urinate on

Comments This is posted in loving memory after Trixi leaving here April 24, 2001. We were able to enjoy a memorable 6 months after diagnosis with much therapy. I owe a great bit to my home vet, for without her,we would not have made it this far. I thank her for coming to my home and finally easing Trixi's pain. I thank this website for what to expect and how to deal with CRF. There is closure after cremation and having her back home where its safe. I would do it all over again with hesitation. I learned so much and value what was shared between us, the bond that exceeded what we already had.

Comments My sweet boy, who is only seven, was recently diagnosed CRF and has gone down hill rather quickly. I've cared for two other cats with CRF over the years, but never had one develope the disease this young. Is it the result of polycystic kidney disease, FIP or cancer? The vet doesn't know and doesn't think it worth investigating, sicne the CRF is what's going to take him in the end. He's going to the vet to have some work done tomorrow and then I am starting him on fluids. He went from eating heartily to not eating at all in the span of a week. In the two months since he was diagnosed, he's lost two pounds; since he weighed only seven pounds to begin with, this is rather severe. S.C. fluids can work wonders, but the uremic gastritis must also be dealt with. We're hoping that with fluids, potassium supplementation and antiemitics, we can get him turned around. I'm fortunate that I have a background in medicine. Thank goodness others have this site to help them deal with what can be a heartbreaking illness. Keep up the

Comments I have just donated $18 in memory of Tigger, a sweet beloved companion of my dear friend, Cait, who crossed that Rainbow Bridge just this morning. He was 10. He went very very quickly, as he was just diagnosed one week ago. May his memory always be a blessing, and my the information on these pages be helpful to others.

Comments My 8 yr. old exotic shorthair, India, was diagnosed about a week ago. Has anyone ever heard of kidney disease in this breed? From the little I have seen of this site, so far, it seems very good and loaded with information and I can't wait to explore it further.

Comments Thank goodness for your site! I've had my baby Mollie for 13 years and I am not ready to give her up yet. She was just feeling under the weather the other day, unusual for her, and so a visit to the vet brought the worst results -- she has CRF. Your site gave me information and most importantly, HOPE. Thank you.

Comments I just have to say how thankful I am for your site. My 4 yr old cat, Morgan, was just diagnosed with CRF and as you know is quite a blow. They believe it is genetic as he is so young. I have started the sub Q fluids (first day was awful!! Ok, more so on me "mom" then Morgan). He is doing great since starting the fluids, so that helps to know at least it helps him and he feels better! He is really back to his old self, wrestling and playing and chasing with my other cat Mickey. We are planning follow up blood work and some additional diagnostics in a month, so we will see what that brings. But thank you for this site. This is the first site I have found that has so much information on every topic, very informative! Here is to hopefully a couple more good yrs for Morgan

Comments My cat Blue was diagnosed with CRF. He has absolutely no appetite and will not eat anything on his own, even his formerly adored tuna water. I have no choice but to force feed him morning and night. Initially this was quite a struggle -- I would try to put wet KD food in his mouth and Blue would eject it with his tongue and we both got very messy, bothered and stressed out. In an effort to feed him foods that are best for him in a mutually pleasing way I've developed an incredible concoction I wanted to share. Each batch lasts almost a week in the fridge. In a cuisinart I blend a half can of KD wet food (I store the other half for the next week), 2 handfuls of pre-soaked KD dry food, a 4 inch ribbon of nutri-cal or petramalt (for constipation), 1/4 cup of water (in addition to the water used to pre-soak the dry food), and then I also add about 1/4-1/2 cup of Abady granular food (I purchase this at a natural pet food store called Whiskers in NYC) -- the Abady has a wet sand consistency and it allows me to get the food concoct

Comments cont'd: the Abady has a wet sand consistency and it allows me to get the food concoction to a perfect consistency that is soft and digestible and easily made into feeding balls that I can force feed Blue with no mess. Because the balls go down his throat easily and cleanly, he does not attempt to eject the food. Abady is a highly digestible protein food which enhances the KD diet foods. Blue has put weight back on, though I fear he's gotten so used to force feeding (he now opens his mouth for each bite!) but still won't even consider eating on his own. Maybe my system is working too well and Blue will never have the motivation to try to eat on his own. In any case -- good luck to everyone out there dealing with this issue -- just wanted to share what's working for us.

Comments Thank you so much for this site! A pharmacist led to me your site and I refer to it regularly, whether it is for refreshing myself on how to do subqs or just for encouragment. My first cat died at the age of 5 from cirrohsis of the liver. So, when I was told that India who had just turned 8, was sick I was devastated. I was greatly relieved when I was told that crf is treatable. I have been treating India for about 2 months now, and with some pretty good results. Keep up the great work.
