I'm a first-time reader of your work. Halfway through sugar, and like more than a few of your first timers(I know I've had a few beers, but I'm not getting fresh here), I felt compelled to write you a thankyou missive.....Thank you. That was articulate wasn't it?I'd just put down a Maya Angelou book, when the cover of `sugar` caught my eye. It's 1.30 am Tokyo time, and this ex pat Limey isn't going to put the book down. Speaking of Limeys, I noticed in your guestbook(which, by the way, has handled more entries than a proctologist on speed) that the ratio of British/Irish comments is about one a year...Wots goin' on ? I'm sure you've got bags of fans there. Anyway Ms. McFadden, next time you're down Tokyo way drop in at the Black Lion pub in Meguro. We'll have a few beers. Cheers.

I just finished Warmest December and I'm about to begin Sugar. I just want to say the Warmest December was like reading my childhood diary. SO much of the story stirred up memories I had tried so hard to forget but realized in order to move forward I had to remember them in order to forgive. WOW! You are gifted and have given me the inspiration I have need to write my mother's story. THANK YOU!!!!

I joined a book club last year, we read "Glorious" last summer. Currently we are reading "Sugar" and I'm waiting to discuss it with the group Feb. 27th. I have enjoyed reading them both and learned a lot from each protagonist. I plan to catch up and read the other books. I'm a new fan now!

Dear Ms. McFadden, Thank you for the powerful writing. I read "Sugar" last weekend, was blown away by it, and ran to get the "Warmest December." Wow! You told my story! I am the same age as Kenzie, I am a recovering alocoholic, and I know the daily terror of living in a household with a Hylo who tortured and crippled my life and my younger brothers'life. I remember being in the hospital and asking God to free me of the hatred I harbored because my life was going to waste, down a toilet just like the one I was praying over. If you never write a sequel to this book, it will be okay with me because I know what happens when you let go of the hatred, begin to heal, and operate in love. I can't wait to read your next book. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Thank you for continuing the Legacy of Mamie Till Mobley mother of Emmett Till. Please email me if you are ever in the Chicagoland area as I am heir to Mrs. Mobley's estate and cousin. I would love to share this information with my family. As a lover of the arts I enjoy witnessing various depictions and modes used to share the historical story of Emmett Till. Blessings

Bernice I met you in Dallas and we took pictures. I just finished reading "Nowhere is a Place". You did a beautiful job writing it. Once I started, I could not put it down. I was laughing as I was reading and thinking, "Now I want to write like that!" Girl you are Good! I think that you will be my new "best author". I just ordered four of your books off amazon and when you come to Black Images in May, I will buy what you are selling that day and hopefully you can sign my four.

Your book The Warmest December gave me the courage to move on. I dealt with many of the circumstances that did Kenzie and have carried the same disgust for my father for years. Kenzie's revelation that she had to let go in order to move forward was the advice I needed to move on. Thank you!!!

Hello Bernice, Not sure if you remember me, a memeber of Collage of Friends Book Club. We met you in September when you visited the SisterFriends Book Club.....jogging your memory...we stood on the back balcony laughing while you and some of my members smoked your cigarettes. LOL. Collage of Friends is anxiously awaiting Loving Donovan...you had us captivated when you read the excerpt. We are trying to decide if the NY or NJ date will work for everyone. Well just wanted to fianlly drop you a line....looking forward to seeing you in January....God's Peace and Blessings

Hey Bernice, It's me again.....I finshed reading Loving Donovan 2 days after you were at Ourstory in Plainfield. Can't say how much I enjoyed it and Collage of Friends has chosen it as the book for February. The story was awesome and moving. Your writing style and prose is absolutely captivating. I'm looking forward to more on Campbell and Donovan...if the writing fairies lead you in that direction. Hope all is well and Gods Mercies during your travels. Will be in touch to set up a visit with the book club. Take care.

I've always been a person that does not like reding even when I was in school. I sat at work on March 20,2002 with nothing to do, so I picked up your book "This Bitter Earth" I read it when I didn't have work to do and hated to put it down. I just finished it on March 22 at 11:00am and am going out to buy your book "Sugar" and "Warmest December". Your work is awesome. My kids can't believe it when they saw me reading. Good luck with your 2nd novel and I plan on reading it. Alice

I REALLY ADMIRE BERNICE MCFADDEN AS AWRITER AND I HAVE READ ALL OF HER BOOKS EXCEPT THE ONE THAT JUST CAME OUT THIS MONTH (5/04). THE ONLY COMPLAINT I HAVE REGARDING HER OR HER BOOKS IS THAT IN EVERY BOOK I HAVE READ I HAVE TO KEEP GOING BACK IN PREVIOUS CHAPTERS TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS OF THE CHARACTERS I FEEL THE RELATIONSHIPS COULD BE DESCRIBED IN A LITTLE MORE DETAIL BUT OTHER THAN THAT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BERNICE !!!!!
