Comments Very nice job with the site. I always coveted the turkel.com domain name, though now that someone's really using it, I feel better. I always thought Turkel meant "little Turk" - you probably know the story of the young Jew accidentally left behind in an area taken by the Turks, raised by them for a time, and nicknamed Turkel... I guess I shouldn't believe everything I read... =;-> (remove the "no.spam." from my e-mail address to respond)

Comments My maiden name was Ada Turkel. My grandfather name was Elix Turkel. He was born in Kirinki, Russia. He married my grandmother serah Rudy. They had 3 children. I am the daughter of Louis Turkel. They came in America in1924. Elix had 7 brothers. All came to America except Joseph who went to Argentina. Any information you have would be helpful. I am interested in finding relatives of the Turkel tribe.

Comments Wow! What an interesting site! My grandmother's maiden name is Turkel. I never knew the origin until now. I am Catholic, so it was really interesting to learn that, if I read correctly, the name began as a Jewish name. I'm still not sure where my family originated from. Hopefully I'll be able to find out some day.
