Comments I was the Operations Officer on USS SIDES (FFG 14) at the time of the SINKEX of the ex-TOWERS. Just logged on to the website to look at the pictures. I remember it was a day that was both exciting and sad. It was very moving to watch the ship sink below the waves, and I remember the crew (who were all out on deck as she sank) becoming very quiet as the stern slipped below the surface.

Comments This is just an update....I served on the Towers as an RM striker. Our CO was Capt. Penny. While in the Tonkin Gulf we became the Flagship for the Commadore. Being in radio,I had to enter the captains quarters at all hours. The man slept with one eye open!! Spooky!!!! Great CO though. Wish I could relive those days!
