Hello!!! It's good to know that there are other Serrato's out there. I am a Serrato because of my mother's father's family. I am very proud of that last name. I would like to someday be a history professor and be referred to as Dr. Serrato because it sounds really sophisticated. My greatgrandpa came from Mexico and resided in Arizona as a young child. We are suppossedly from Italian ancestery. If anyone out there is between the ages of 16 or 17 I would like to chat with you and get to know about your history. I have MSN messenger. In my research I have found that Serratos and Serrato are indeed distinct names. In some cases they may have crossed, more likely Serratos becoming Serrato. Serratos in my case comes from Serratosa a Catalan surname, most likely "Castillianized" as Catalans were not permitted to immigrate to the new world. Serratos is a very common surname and almost exclusive to Jalisco state in Mexico. I have found the Serratos name in Mexican birth and marriage records dating back to 1590. My interactions with family and other Serratos also points out that they are almost all Criollo. Famous Serratos' include: Ramon Serratos (Composer-music school founder, teacher of the artist who performed "Besa me mucho"), Alfredo Serratos (Villista General), Jose Maria de Jesus Portugal y Serratos (Bishop of Aguascalientes 1902-1912) and the undesirable Lupercio Serratos brothers (Guadalajara cartel-I'm sure they aren't real Serratos). There are many possible origins to the names-Serrao, Seurrat, Serrats, Serrat (Catala-not French), Serrato, etc.

This is a great web site. Thanks for all the information. I come from a family of two brothers and three sisters. Our father is Sam Serrato his father was Joseph Serrato and Mother Molly Serrato. He comes from a large family of six sisters and five brothers all reside within L.A. or nearbye counties.

Gilbert, I'm glad I'm not the only one looking into my ancestral lineage. My mother's maiden name is Serrato. My great,great grandfather was Julian Serrato who married Angelita Cortez or (Cortes) - they had four sons, one daughter, Vicente, Octabiano, Juan, Rafael and Maria Carmin. My great grandfather was Vicente Serrato who married Gertrudes (maiden name unknown), they had four sons and one daughter, Francisco, Jesus, Grigorio, Miguel and Maria. My grandfather was Miguel who married Salud Solorio, they had two sons and three daughters, Salvador, Natividad, Aurelia, Sara and Soledad. My grandmother came from Michoacan from a village called Acuitzeramo. I am not sure if my grandfather met my grandmother there or here in the states. I look forward to hearing any info you can give me. Your research thus far is great. Thanks so much.

My last name is also "Serrato". My grandparents moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Madera, California in the late 1930's. My grandfather Apolonio Serrato had two sister's that remained in Arizona, thier names were Martina and Esther. From what I have heard my grandfather did have a brother or brothers? My grandfather had five sons, Fermin, Frank, Raymond, Apolonio, Luis Angel and one sister Mary. My Father name is Frank Serrato and his son's are Frank Jr, Peter and Edward and daughters Angela, Rosie, Cecilia and Jessie. I truly enjoyed this website. Serrato is not a common name and I thank you for making the connection with all Serrato's accross the globe.

I live in California my father is Carlos Serrato he is from Mexico and his Father another Serrato Fernando has lived in Mexico as well although while doing some research he learned that his father Antonio came from spain and had relatives in Italy , so I'm confused of my great grandfather's origin...not sure if I'm Italian or from spain..it's be awesome if I'm Italian though..contact me if you have any infromation
